Since its establishment, the association has accomplished a great deal, particularly in cooperation with environment-focused institutions across various sectors.

Activities from 2013 to 2018

Since its establishment, the association has accomplished a great deal, particularly in cooperation with environment-focused institutions across various sectors. Below are the most prominent of these achievements:

  1. Supplying seeds of beneficial trees and shrubs for combating desertification to various specialists, public and private nurseries, and scientific institutions since 2013. Photo details can be viewed on the Facebook pages of (Million Trees Commission) and (Million Trees Association).

  2. Communicating and cooperating with various Iraqi and international institutions, including the Iraqi Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, and Water Resources,  and the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), among others, to achieve common goals in combating desertification, afforestation, and creating green belts.

  3. Carrying out tree-planting activities in schools in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and various municipalities in Baghdad and several Iraqi governorates since 2014.

  4. Participating in several festivals, beginning with the 2014 International Flower Festival in Basra, followed by the International Flower Festivals at Al-Zawraa Park in Baghdad from 2015 to the present.

  5. Membership in the Supreme National Committee for Combating Desertification (Ministry of Health and Environment) since 2016.

  6. Submitting project studies for afforestation, rehabilitation of green belts, and establishment of nurseries for the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein in Karbala and to several individuals.

  7. Conducting detailed studies and consultancy work for establishing afforestation projects of various sizes, as well as preparing plans and economic feasibility  studies for them since 2016, which were submitted upon requests from the Office of the Technical Undersecretary for the Environment at the Ministry of Health and Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Technical Institute in Kut, as well as individuals in need of them.

  8. Establishing a nursery for the association in Al-Za'franiya at the beginning of 2017, after transferring saplings from the site of Al-Salsabil Production Nursery in Tunis District – Baghdad.

  9. Participating in seminars organized by the Agricultural Engineers Syndicate, the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Health and Environment, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and submitting proposals regarding the development of existing agricultural laws and drafting new ones to improve management and service of the agricultural environment and water bodies, sponsored by parliamentary committees tasked with agricultural sector reforms and upon request from other official institutions.

  10. Supporting an applied scientific research project entitled (Combating Desertification in Certain Iraqi Governorates by Enhancing Desertified Soils' Capacity to Absorb and Store Moisture), which was prepared in cooperation with the faculty of the College of Agriculture at the University of Baghdad and the Center for Desert Studies at the University of Anbar. It was submitted to the Supreme National Committee for Combating Desertification in 2018 and nominated for funding by the Project Selection Committee at the General Secretariat for the Council of Ministers.           

  11. Ongoing cooperation with the Department of Forestry and Desertification Control at the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture to develop the department's nursery located within Al-Rasheed Forest near Al-Youssifiyah by providing seeds and offering consultations to enhance the performance of the nursery and the forest.
